Second Annual George W. Pratt Day
PRATTSVILLE — On Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, the Zadock Pratt Museum will hold its 2nd Annual Colonel George W. Pratt Heritage Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event, a tribute to the memory and sacrifice of Greene County patriots who fought to preserve the Union, will launch the Museum’s commemoration of the approaching American Civil War Sesquicentennial (2011-2015). Throughout the day meet famous personalities from the period. Talk with Civil War soldiers, visit memorabilia diaplays, discuss history with noted book authors and enjoy the surrounds of a historic mid-19th century homestead.
This year, the Zadock Pratt Museum is celebrating its publication of the first ever biography of Colonel George W. Pratt, only son of Zadock Pratt, who fell at the Second Battle of Bull Run and died and was laid to rest a few weeks later in Albany County, NY. Signed copies of this new book, Colonel George Watson Pratt: American Patriot by distinguished scholar Seward R. Osborne will be on hand for sale.
The Civil War encampment opens on the Prattsville town green with 120th NY Volunteers’ Fife & Drum music by Rural Felicity. See soldiers drilling and how they lived while on the march.
At 12 p.m., Drummer Boys: Answering the Call and Silver Eagles: The War Colonels of the 20th NYS Militia curated by John Quinn opens to the public at the Zadock Pratt Museum, including a power point program on the life of Colonel George Watson Pratt in the museum's Pratt Room.
1 p.m., Dr. Edythe Ann Quinn will talk about Letters Home by Sgt. Simeon Anderson Tierce.
1:30 p.m., the kids will love the drummer workshop for young recruits. Assemble your own drum with Sharon Quinn and learn some basic drum rolls with Rural Felicity Fife & Drums.
2:30 p.m., Enjoy a Free Ice Cream Social at the Gazebo on the Prattsville Town Green followed by an 1860s Cake walk with prizes and camp sing-a-long with 77th New York Regimental Balladeers.
3:30 p.m., The program closes with 19th century children's games with Jody Luce.
The entire day is free and open to the public. This is the Museum's gift to you in honor of Zadock Pratt and his family and brought to you by the museum's Board of Directors and generous members and supporters, including Bank of Greene County, Greene County Council on the Arts, Greene County Legislature, Greene County Planning, Development & Tourism, and the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O'Connor Foundation.
