ALBANY — A Coeymans man appeared remorseful before an Albany County Court judge Wednesday, having an emotional statement read during his sentencing after pleading guilty to killing his 18-year-old son, who was a former Greenville High School student.

Glenn Vosburgh, 44, had his attorney Louis Neri read a statement to Judge Stephen W. Herrick before his sentence, declaring his regret for discharging a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol into his son Craig’s back, killing him.

Vosburgh was sentenced to 19 years in state prison as well as five years post-release supervision.

“My son, Craig Vosburgh was a very beautiful and loving person,” the statement — which was sent to The Daily Mail and verified — read. “I’m deeply remorseful and apologetic to Craig’s mother Melissa, her husband Dave and their families. I would also like to tell my own family and friends, as well as my son’s how truly sorry I am.

“Craig was the most wonderful son a father could hope to have. He truly made my life, as well as others, worth living.”

In August, Vosburgh pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, a class B violent felony.

It was determined by an investigation that on March 16 at Vosburgh’s home at 1934 Route 9W in the Town of Coeymans, Craig was shot in the back and killed by a bullet from a 9 mm handgun.

Police found a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol hidden in the attic of the home and shells found near the body were identified as being discharged from the handgun.

“This was truly a senseless act,” Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares said in a statement. “From all indications, this young man chose to live with his father in order to help him through some difficult times. But in the end, the very man who was a part of giving Craig life was responsible for taking it away.”

The senior Vosburgh blamed carelessness and his temper for what happened to his son.

“Because of my irresponsibility with both firearms and alcohol Craig is no longer with us,” Vosburgh’s statement continued. “I can only pray that Craig is in a safe and wonderful place and that God is looking over him.

“My biggest and deepest apology goes to Craig. I hope he is listening and watching over us.”

The district attorney’s office said there as a possibility for parole earlier than the 19 years, but that would have to be determined by the state Department of Corrections.

After sentencing, Vosburgh was immediately taken into custody by corrections officers and transported to a state correctional facility.
