COEYMANS — A former Greenville High School student was found slain on Monday at his home and his father has been charged with second-degree murder.
Eighteen-year-old Craig Vosburgh was found dead early Monday and was allegedly killed late Sunday night, according to the Coeymans Police Department.
An autopsy conducted at Albany Medical Center by Albany County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard confirmed that Vosburgh died of a gunshot wound.
Police investigators had initially raised suspicion about the shooting and were combing the scene at 1934 Route 9W for evidence well into Tuesday afternoon.
A warrant was issued early Monday by Coeymans Town Justice Kevin Reilly, seeking the arrest of Craig Vosburgh’s 44-year-old father Glenn Vosburgh. The elder Vosburgh was apprehended by police at a friend’s home in Rensselaerville and charged with second-degree murder.
“A homicide is a highly unusual circumstance in the town of Coeymans,” said Coeymans Police Chief Gregory Darlington in a press release. “The hard work of my officers and the state police investigators made a timely arrest possible in this tragic case. The cooperation of two agencies and investigators ensured that this case was closed quickly.”
Craig Vosburgh was a former student of the Greenville Central School District where he first attended fifth-grade at Scott M. Ellis Elementary School in 2002. He withdrew mid-year during seventh-grade and returned for his eighth-grade year until again withdrawing during his sophomore year at Greenville High School.
He did not return after his 2007 withdrawal, but was assisted by the school district to attain his GED.
“We were recently saddened in our school community by the sudden death,” said a statement released by Greenville High School Principal Michael S. Laster. “Craig was a valued member of our school community, while he was enrolled. His interests and enthusiasm assured us that he would be successful in future endeavors.”
Laster added that support will be provided by the school for students and staff who knew him.
Glenn Vosburgh was arraigned in Coeymans Town Court and remanded to Albany County Jail without bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, March 20 at 2 p.m. in Coeymans Town Court.
