Man gets prison time for dealing drugs

CATSKILL — A 36-year-old Catskill man has been sentenced to six years in state prison after being convicted of selling crack cocaine.

According to Greene County District Attorney Terry Wilhelm, Ethan Johnson was sentenced last week by Greene County Court Judge Daniel K. Lalor.

Johnson’s conviction had been the result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Village of Catskill Police Department and the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team of the New York State Police (CNET). Information had been developed implicating Johson in the sale of crack cocaine from his residence, apartment 2 at 206 Main Street in the Village of Catskill.

Johnson had previously been convicted of criminal sale of crack cocaine and sentencing had been adjourned until last week, Wilhelm said. At the sentencing, Lalor imposed a six-year state prison sentence followed by two years of post-release supervision.

“Again, a long prison sentence has been imposed upon a drug dealer operating within our county,” Wilhelm said in a press release. “Hopefully, other would-be drug dealers will realize that if they are selling drugs within Greene County, they are taking a very big risk that, once caught, they will be spending a substantial portion of their life behind bars.”

Lalor remanded Johnson to the care and custody of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department for transfer to the New York State Department of Correctional Services to commence serving his prison sentence.

“My office, along with law enforcement agencies within Greene County,” Wilhelm reiterated, “are dedicated to putting drug dealers behind bars so that we can keep drugs off of our streets and out of our communities.”

" GREAT JOB. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. HE IS PUT AWAY JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, HE'S WHERE HE BELONGS, KEEP HIM OFF THE STREETS. GREENE COUNTY IS KEEPING US SAFE, BETTER THAN OTHER NEIGHBORING LAW ENFORCEMENT COUNTIES TO THE NORTH OF US, LIKE ALBANY COUNTY! "

" I would like to know why Greene County Elected Officials are not under mandatory random drug and alcohol testing? Lets start with the Legislature's and work on to ALL county elected employee's, then ALL Greene County cops, troopers, prison workers, volonteer firemen, (especially now that they receive county retirement benefits). Why is this not happining NOW??? If they are all clean, then there is nothing to be concerned about- correct? Now, the "guilty parties", and I use that term lightly, will immediately down play this idea, and lable me all bad things. I understand this, and could care less. Drug addicts get very upset when there party could end. Look, if your going to do something, do it wright, not half/ased. This is Greene County. Drug and Alcohol use is rampent. Implement Random Drug and Alcohol testing for all these entities NOW! CATCH YA LATER..... "

" Purple: Do you honestly believe that incarcerating the Johnson will in any way reduce the use of substances in your county? Have you been asleep for the past 30 years? Does anyone here understand that the war on drugs is a complete failure in every respect? To all those who are about to thank the police for their efforts in engaging this futile (and ultimately inhumane) war on drugs I have a suggestion: 1. Pick up a book and read about the effects of alcohol prohibition. 2. Pick up a copy of the constitution. 3. Reflect on the fact that our founding fathers would be turning in their graves upon witnessing the awful, anti-liberty actions of our government. Shame on you for being so supportive of the fascistic policies of your government! "
