Man gets prison time for dealing drugs
By Colin DeVries
CATSKILL — A 36-year-old Catskill man has been sentenced to six years in state prison after being convicted of selling crack cocaine.
According to Greene County District Attorney Terry Wilhelm, Ethan Johnson was sentenced last week by Greene County Court Judge Daniel K. Lalor.
Johnson’s conviction had been the result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Village of Catskill Police Department and the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team of the New York State Police (CNET). Information had been developed implicating Johson in the sale of crack cocaine from his residence, apartment 2 at 206 Main Street in the Village of Catskill.
Johnson had previously been convicted of criminal sale of crack cocaine and sentencing had been adjourned until last week, Wilhelm said. At the sentencing, Lalor imposed a six-year state prison sentence followed by two years of post-release supervision.
“Again, a long prison sentence has been imposed upon a drug dealer operating within our county,” Wilhelm said in a press release. “Hopefully, other would-be drug dealers will realize that if they are selling drugs within Greene County, they are taking a very big risk that, once caught, they will be spending a substantial portion of their life behind bars.”
Lalor remanded Johnson to the care and custody of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department for transfer to the New York State Department of Correctional Services to commence serving his prison sentence.
“My office, along with law enforcement agencies within Greene County,” Wilhelm reiterated, “are dedicated to putting drug dealers behind bars so that we can keep drugs off of our streets and out of our communities.”
