Dinner is served!

Community comes together for free Thanksgiving meal

CATSKILL — Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and all the fixin’s were served for the third Annual Thanksgiving Dinner at the Washington Irving Senior Center Thursday.

“This is our third year,” said co-organizer Anne Marie Moran, “and it gets bigger and better every year.”

About 100 residents, town officials and community luminaries came together to provide a free Thanksgiving dinner. There were also approximately 60 meals home-delivered, Moran said, which is a substantial increase from the approximate 25 delivered last year.

“This is a great event,” said Town Supervisor Peter Markou, who was one of the myriad volunteers that came out to help serve the home-cooked meals.

Catskill School District Superintendent Kate Farrell was also donning an apron and gloves for the occasion, helping to serve drinks, cut slices of warm apple pie and clear tables.

“It’s good to see an event like this here in Catskill,” Farrell said.

Volunteers also included young Catskill Elementary and High School students who have helped to dish out the hot, delicious meals each year.

The event was organized by Moran, director of the senior center, and Elizabeth Izzo, Catskill town clerk.

The food supplied for the event was cooked on-site and included donations from local residents.

Moran intends to continue the Thanksgiving Day tradition for several years to come and thanks the community for its continued participation in making this community service happen.
