Walgreens has busy opening day
District Manager says store is ready for Black Friday shoppers
By Colin DeVries
CATSKILL — The new Walgreens at the corner of Route 9W and Central Ave. is now open in the village — just in time for the holidays.
“It’s pretty exciting,” said Walgreens District Manager Rich Zaccone, “as soon as we unlocked the doors customers started coming in.”
Zaccone said they were finally able to open on Monday after attaining their pharmacy license. Apparently the community didn’t waste any time and several prescriptions have already been filled there.
The community, Zaccone says, seems to have received Walgreens pretty well on its first day in business, and they are definitely prepared for Black Friday shoppers.
“We’re ready,” Zaccone said about Black Friday. “They get a tremendous amount of traffic to Wal-Mart and Lowe’s … they drive a ton of vehicles to the area.”
More traffic equals more business for Walgreens, Zaccone says.
The Walgreens has 22,000 non-pharmacy products ranging from cough and cold, beauty supplies, first aid needs, household chemicals and grocery items, to on-site photo finishing.
The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, with the in-store and drive-thru pharmacy being open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Currently, the store employees 24 people in the community and has three pharmacists on staff. Zaccone hopes the number of employees will increase to as many as 60.
A grand opening event is planned for the next two weeks, and inserts in The Daily Mail will feature the event with promotional price listings.
