Obituaries

Maureen L. Churchill


CATSKILL - Maureen L. Churchill, 65, of Hamburg Road, Catskill, died suddenly on Nov. 15, 2008 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born on Feb. 4, 1943 in Craryville, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Lucia Umphrey Churchill. She was a 1960 graduate of Roeliff Jansen High School and later graduated from Columbia-Greene Community College with a degree in public water treatment. For 25 years she worked as the water filtration plant operator for the Village of Catskill. She also served as past president and secretary treasurer for AFSCME Local 968.

She is survived by her son, Warren Churchill, and his companion Nizar Habash; her brother Philip and his wife Jane Churchill; her sister Patricia and her husband Frederick Larson; her brother Richard Churchill; her nieces Lucia Larson, Lynn Rhoads, Terry Reese, Tricha Churchill, Jennifer Brocky, Stephanie Ling; and nephews Michael Churchill and Jeffrey Cusano and their families.



Maureen was a master gardener who truly enjoyed creating and tending to her gardens. She had an extensive knowledge of horticulture and shared her lovely gardens with her neighbors.

On Saturday, Nov. 22, Maureen’s family will receive friends at the Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, beginning at 10 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Reverend Joyce Wilkerson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
