Panthers, Whalers to play for titles
No. 1 Panthers 39, No. 4 Albany 7
CAIRO — The Top-seeded Greene County Panthers battled through harsh elements to demolish No. 4 Albany 39-7 Sunday in the semifinals of the Capital District Pop Warner Midget Division playoffs.
Quarterback Luis White had a touchdown pass to Shameer Peterson in the third quarter and Kevin Hunt, Alex Sebring, Hassain Spencer and Danny Mayo all crossed the goal line as well to help give Greene County the win and send the team to the Super Bowl.
Greene County takes on No. 3 East Greenbush for the title at Bleeker Stadium in Albany Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. East Greenbush knocked off No. 2 Troy.
“We recently started a team prayer before games and since then we’ve been winning. We just give thanks to God for getting where we are right now,” said coach Lou Jobson
With the win, the Panthers push their unbeaten streak to 9-0 on the season and look to be the favorite in the Super Bowl.

Columbia County Whalers 26, Ballston Spa 7
BALLSTON SPA — The Columbia County Whalers upset the previously unbeaten Ballston Spa Scotties 26-7 in Pop Warner Jr. Pee Wee division football playoff action Saturday in Ballston Spa, according to an e-mail from Paul Graziano.
The Whalers scored a touchdown on their first possession five minutes into the game then scored again four minutes later.
The Scotties scored their only touchdown in the second quarter on a pass play.
Another Whalers TD in the third quarter extended their lead and in the fourth quarter, the Whalers sealed the fate of the Scotties with yet another touchdown.
The Whalers play the North Colonie Bison Saturday in the Capital District Pop Warner Super Bowl. The game will be played at Bleeker Stadium in Albany at 9 a.m.
