CSD to host Veterans program Friday

CATSKILL — Catskill Central School District will host a Community Veterans’ Day Observance in conjunction with the town and village of Catskill at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the high school auditorium.

CSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Farrell said Monday that village of Catskill Chief of Police and U.S. Army veteran David Darling will be the guest speaker. Darling saw active duty from 1966-69, and served in Vietnam in 1968-69.

Farrell said the ceremony will also include recognizing and honoring a Catskill High School alumnus who lost his life during Vietnam.

She said a medley and selection of patriotic and military songs will be performed by The Trebeliers, and that there will also be a video clip called “Remember Me,” which showcases the dual roles of service personnel as family members.

Farrell noted that the Honor Guard is being provided by American Legion T.G.M. Post 187, of Athens.

Among the invited guests are the municipal board members of both Catskills and a variety of county officials and administrators.

Farrell said that following the playing of Taps at the conclusion of the ceremony, students will have a chance to mingle with those veterans in attendance and thank them for their service.

She said she encourages veterans to attend and interact with participating students following the main presentation, and also extended a strong welcome to the community and general public to attend.

Farrell said that afterwards there will be a light luncheon for veterans, officials and program guests in the high school library.
