2nd suspect arrested in burglary at country club
By Billie Dunn
CATSKILL — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office made a second arrest Thursday in connection with a burglary at the Catskill Country Club.
Lisa Reyes of Fairview Avenue in Hudson was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Reyes was involved with Anthony Traficante of 96 Day Road in Stuyvesant. Traficante was arrested on Oct. 1 and was charged with one count of third-degree burglary.
The arrests stem from an Aug. 15 break-in at the Catskill Country Club in Jefferson Heights.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Traficante gained entry to the club through a rear window. A Centry safe containing $8,150 in cash, $6,875 in checks, and three $500 savings bonds, and two bottles of liquor were stolen from the country club.
Officials determined that Reyes was waiting in Traficante’s car at the time of burglary, and afterward Traficante and Reyes drove to Hudson to open the safe with an electric saw.
The safe was emptied, and according to statements given by both suspects, its contents were spent, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Following the August break-in the Crime Scene Investigation Unit lifted fingerprints from around the window. The prints were sent to the Division of Criminal Justice Services crime lab for processing, and were found to belong to Traficante, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office said that under questioning Traficante admitted to the burglary at the country club, as well as other burglaries in Greene and Columbia counties. Traficante was arraigned in Catskill Town Court and ordered held in Greene County Jail.
“I am exceptionally pleased that in apprehending this subject we were able to solve other burglaries in both Greene and Columbia counties,” Greene County Sheriff Greg Seeley said following Traficante’s arrest. “Since becoming sheriff I have been committed to increased and continuous training. Several deputies recently completed an intensive two-week training course in Crime Scene Investigation that undoubtedly aided in this investigation.”
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in its investigation by the Greene County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and worked extensively with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Reyes was arraigned in Catskill Village Court and sent to the Greene County Jail on $25,000 bail.
