Rainy day on the course: Cats down ’Stangs; Titans top ’Hawks


Catskill 8, Cairo-Durham 4

CATSKILL — Catskill defeated Cairo-Durham 8-4 in a rain-shortened Patroon Conference varsity golf match Friday at Catskill Golf Club.



Due to poor weather, only the number one and two golfers from each team finished nine holes. The third and fourth position golfers finished seven holes, while the fifth and sixth players completed five holes, the minimum to record an official score, according to Cairo-Durham coach Peter Maassmann.

Both teams return to action Monday at 4 p.m., with Catskill (5-6) hosting Taconic Hills and Cairo-Durham (3-6) playing Ichabod Crane at their home course Blackhead Mountain Golf Course in Round Top.

Individual scores were not available from either coach.

Results (Catskill listed first): Seth Bulich lost to Dakota Armstrong; Pat Hedges def. George Lord; Levi Fiske lost to Kevin Hunt; Tyler Chewens lost to Gary Kern; Joe Schrowang lost to Eric Kuzminsky; Jessica Wennstrom def. Chris Notarnicola. Individual scores were not available.

Taconic Hills 6 (297), Hudson 6 (316)

COPAKE — Taconic Hills defeated Hudson Friday in a Patroon Conference golf match at Copake Country Club that was decided by total team strokes after match play was tied 6-6. The Titans pulled it off in strokes with a 297-316 advantage.

Hudson’s Stephanie Bednar and Taconic Hill’s Mike Jacobsen led the field with sectional scores of 41 and 43, respectively.

“The weather was a little rainy today, but they all stuck through it and played all nine holes,” said Taconic Hills coach Joe Raco. “Both teams battled it out for a great match today.”

Taconic Hills (3-6) travels to face Catskill at Catskill Golf Club while Hudson hosts Greenville at Columbia Golf and Country Club Monday at 4 p.m.

Results (TH listed first): Kyle Preusser (46) lost to Stephanie Bednar (41); Mike Jacobsen (43) def. Keeler (63); Christy Tiano (48) def. Krystov Fout (54); Mike Carl (50) lost to Brad Holmes (48); Jeff Brown (59) lost to Chris Parmentier (56); Sam Lydon (51) def. Mark D’Onofrio (54).

PATROON GIRLS SOCCER


Greenville 8, Hudson 0

GREENVILLE — Greenville used a seven-pronged attack in an 8-0 rout of Hudson during Patroon Conference girls varsity soccer action at Greenville Friday.

Alex VanAuken scored twice and the rest of the offense was spread out for the Lady Spartans.

Kim Fabian, Danielle Dudley and Toressa Young each had a goal and an assist, with Young assisting her sister Taylor’s goal via corner kick. Crystal Russel and Cayla Womack also scored for Greenville.

Lady Spartans’ coach Eileen Kiefer was impressed with her team’s ability to execute on set plays.

“It’s good for us, it’s hard to defend on set plays,” Kiefer said. “I was very pleased with the girls scoring off the corner kick and two direct kicks.”

Lady Bluehawks goalkeeper Jackie Hull had 21 saves on 29 shots while Greenville’s Stephanie Bouillon had three saves on four shots.

The Lady Spartans (3-1, 2-1) host Cairo-Durham Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Coxsackie-Athens 1, Taconic Hills 0

COXSACKIE — The Coxsackie-Athens Lady Indians edged out Taconic Hills 1-0 in Patroon Conference varsity girls soccer play on a rain-soaked Friday afternoon at Coxsackie-Athens.

Maggie McDonald scored the deciding goal for C-A with 14:38 left in the first half. Gillian Stippa and Liz Salvino were both credited with assists on the goal.

Lady Indians’ keeper Jenna Morse had six saves in the shutout while her Taconic Hills counterpart, Rebecca Davis, made 11 saves.

“I think my girls played well. I was an all-around good game for Coxsackie-Athens and it’s nice to get a win in conference,” said C-A coach Mark Lenney.

The Lady Indians (2-3, 1-2) play Chatham Thursday at 4 p.m. at home while Taconic Hills hosts Maple Hill Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Chatham 8, Catskill 0

CHATHAM — Chatham pounded Catskill 8-0 in Patroon Conference varsity girls soccer play Friday at Chatham, according to an e-mail from Chatham scorekeeper Julie Brown.

Brittany Keeler led the Lady Panthers with three goals and one assist on the day. Megan Wenk added two goals while Leah Wightman, Emily Brown and Alyssa Keeler added a goal apiece. Picking up assists were Taylor Wenk with two and Brown, Abby Wheeler and Calley Nieto with one each.

The Lady Panthers outshot Catskill 26-5, forcing Catskill goalkeeper Megan Baxter to make nine saves. In the net for Chatham, Brittany Lossow made three saves and Taylor Wenk made one.





Maple Hill 4, Cairo-Durham 1

CASTLETON — Maple Hill overcame a slow start to defeat Cairo-Durham 4-1 in Patroon Conference girls soccer action Friday at Maple Hill, according to an e-mail from Maple Hill coach Sheila Golden.

“Score doesn’t tell it, but for the most part it was a very closely contested game,” said C-D coach Greg Hagan.

C-D’s Samantha Spohler got the Lady Mustangs out to an early 1-0 lead eight minutes into the game but Maple Hill took over with four goals in the second half.

Meeghan Amo led the Lady Wildcats’ attack with two goals and one assist. Kristen DerGurahian and Alyssa Ancin scored the other two goals while Alyssa Filkins added an assist.

Maple Hill outshot C-D 27-11. Alison Schlobohm made nine saves in goal for C-D, while Anna Racz made four for Maple Hill.

The Lady Mustangs (3-2) return to the field at Greenville while Maple Hill travels to Taconic Hills Tuesday at 4 p.m.

CVHL BOYS SOCCER


New Lebanon 4, Berlin 2

NEW LEBANON — New Lebanon defeated Berlin 4-2 in CVHL varsity boys soccer action Friday at New Lebanon, according to an e-mail from New Lebanon coach Rob Allard.

Goals for New Lebanon came from Walsh, Tavares, Burgess and Evans, while both of Berlin’s goals were made by Willis. New Lebanon keeper Johnson made six saves and Berlin’s Demick made eight.
