Third Big Outdoor Movie Night at the park

COXSACKIE — Today the town of Coxsackie will host its second Big Outdoor Movie Night of the summer. The event, which began last year, was slated to be annual — but this summer’s encore performance is a result of its popularity.

Earlier this month more than 200 residents from Coxsackie and surrounding communities attended the Aug. 3 showing of Bee Movie, a DreamWorks film created by Jerry Seinfeld in which Barry (Seinfeld), a recent college graduate, realizes he wants more out of life than just a job at Honex making honey.

Tonight, movie-goers will be treated to a free showing of Disney’s Enchanted, a 2007 film about a princess who lives a perfect life before her evil step-mother-to-be throws her through a magical portal and she ends up in a land where “there are no happily ever afters” — New York City.

The film is rated PG, and is 107 minutes long. It will be projected onto a two-story inflatable screen by Fresh Air Flicks, a company that provides outdoor movies throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and eastern Pennsylvania. Fresh Air Flicks also takes part in a weekly outdoor summer movie series underneath the Brooklyn Bridge.

Big Outdoor Movie Night is an effort by the town to create more family-friendly activities in Coxsackie. Town Supervisor Alexander Betke got the idea at an Association of Towns meeting last year.

The show will kick-off around 7:30 p.m., and popcorn will be provided.

Betke recommends that people bring chairs, blankets and even picnic dinners to Riverside Park — which he describes as underutilized.

“This is a really neat experience, and we’re lucky enough to have it entirely funded by a grant,” said Betke, who thanks Assemblyman Tim Gordon for his efforts. Betke also credits additional sponsors — the National Bank of Coxsackie, State Telephone Company, Hamlet on the Hudson and Peggy and Hue Quigley.

" Hi, maybe be a little late, but i was searching the web for historical sculptures and came across your article. I think it is written well and i am interested in using Ron Tunison`s biography, for my studies. I am from Carnoustie, in Scotland and if possible, would like to use any cuttings from your newspaper, on historical art. Please reply. "
