Visualizing ideals of grace and beauty
By Alvaro E. Alarcon
WINDHAM — Images of nature and still lifes evocative of 18th century European art are on display at a Windham gallery tonight, as Windham Fine Arts opens “Classical Realism.”
Victoria Alten, curator of Windham Fine Arts, said she tries to make sure that each show is different from the last. “The gallery looks different and diverse,” Alten said.
That’s why over the course of the year, Catskill Mountain plein air art, industrial cityscapes, abstract images and as tonight Classic Realist art all make their appearances in Windham Fine Arts. Tonight American Kevin Cook and French-born Mireille Duchesne show oil paintings that evoke the art of the 18th century, with deep shades and sensuous textures.
