Ballerina turns on the neon lights
By Alvaro E. Alarcon
DURHAM — While football season is in full swing, a local dance choreographer and one-time ballerina is quick to point out that the dancing arts rival, if not exceed, what athletes set out to do everyday.
“We’re such a football mentality,” Margo Sappington said. “My son can’t take ballet.”
Sappington dismissed “The Company,” a movie released in 2003 by director Robert Altman and starring Neve Campbell as a persevering dancer in the Chicago Joffrey ballet. “The Company” missed the mark, Sappington said, when Campbell is hurt and the injury becomes the talk of the company.
