The cat days of summer are here
By Andrea Macko
CATSKILL — No matter how hot the temperature sore in coming months, it won’t be the dog days of summer scorching Catskill this year — the cat days are here.
Last week the Heart of Catskill Association kicked off it’s Cat’n Around Catskill summer celebration and public art exhibit with the debut of 50 fanciful fiberglass felines throughout the village.
Painted and decorated by local artists — and some from as far away as Colorado — the cats each have their own name, delineating their unique purrrrsonality.
There’s Tom Cat Cole, designed by art teacher and children’s book author Sylvie Kantorovitz, that whimsically depicts Catskill’s own world-renowned landscape artist Thomas Cole.
There’s Tempuss the Time Cat, a fantastical creation by Catskill artist, designer, photographer and recording artist Lex Grey. There’s Front Page Cat, decopached by photographer Dick Crenson with newspaper headlines and articles spanning W.W.II to Wall Street and the Wizard of Oz.
