HUNTER - The noted area classical pianist husband-wife team of Vladimir Pleshakov and Elena Winther will hold a Rite of Spring celebration and performance in Hunter on Saturday, April 28.
The evening is billed as an “Old Style Russian Rite of Spring Party,” and will be a fundraiser for the Pleshakov Piano Museum, which is scheduled for a formal opening in its new home, Hunter's Doctorow Performing Arts Center, in early August.
As with last year's successful Rite of Spring celebration, which sold out, this year's gathering will again be at the Catskill Mountain Foundation's “Red Barn,” at the west end of the village on Main Street.
The celebration begins at 6 p.m. and features a mix of Russian-themed food and music that is sure to provide a memorable evening for all.
The appetizers, or “izakuskii,” include such delectables as Eggplant Oriental, Red Caviar with Lemon Slices, Pelmeny Siberian -- which is a type of meat-stuffed dumpling, and Loin of Pork with Russian Mustard, among others.
The main dishes are even more mouth-watering. Mushroom and Veezeega Pirog is a Russian stuffed pie in the tradition of true Slavic pirogies, and Filet of Beef with Sauce Bordelaise needs no introduction whatsoever.
